Internationally acclaimed graphic designer, has created the distinctive art for the 100th season of the Reading Symphony Orchestra. He is perhaps the only graphic designer to become famous chiefly as a result of designing innovative and memorable book and comic book covers. He has created more than 1,500 designs including works by John Updike, Charles Schulz, Dean Koontz and David Sedaris. One of his most famous designs is the cover to Michael Crichton's novel, Jurassic Park, which also influenced the design of the film. In addition, he is the author of several books including The Cheese Monkeys, a work of fiction and a monograph of his work,
Chip Kidd: Book One, Work: 1986-2006.
When we asked Chip to provide a logo for our 100th season, we wanted a design that would celebrate the RSO as a community jewel creating wonderful music, a design that would be recognized by all. Chip graciously provided a compelling rendition that exceeded our expectations. It is featured on the season brochure and will be used throughout the season. Chip will join our music director, Andrew Constantine, to sign posters of his design at the 100th season’s opening concert on October 13, 2012. Chip was born in Shillington, educated at Wilson and Penn State and is the son of Ann and Thomas Kidd, members of the RSO family. Chip generously donated his fee to the RSYO. We are in his debt and most appreciative of his artistic contribution to our celebration.
