Brahms – Symphony No. 4
The beautiful yet brooding melodies of Brahms famous 4th Symphony will transport you to another place and time. Brahms’s achievement in the Fourth Symphony is the ferocity and concentration of expression that is achieved.
Ravel said of his Piano Concerto in G, that he was not aiming to be profound but to entertain, in the manner of Mozart and Saint-Saëns. This piece will certainly do just that with the influences of jazz rhythms and Basque Folk Music.
The concert will open with This Midnight Hour is cast in a single movement and has a performance duration of approximately 12 minutes. The music was inspired by two poems: “La Musica” by Juan Ramón Jiménez and “Harmonie du soir” by Charles Baudelaire. Nevertheless, Clyne commented in the score program note, “Whilst it is not intended to depict a specific narrative, my intention is that it will evoke a visual journey for the listener.”
